Confused about giving and receiving? The Reconnected

Top Blogs

Are you confused about giving and receiving respectively one of them do you consider more appropriate than the other?

Many women struggle with the concept of receiving freely and instead put most of their energy on giving and making sure others are okay. It’s also called the mothering-type. Cooking for their loved-ones, getting their children ready for school, doing the laundry, going grocery shopping, cleaning, putting their lives on hold to take care of their parents or pleasing their bosses at work. The list goes on. Sound familiar? You give, and give, and give. And what comes back?

In an earlier post I introduced a new concept, that I heard from some of the leading experts in personal development: „Give and you shall receive.“ I love this new spin, but be aware that giving is part receiving and receiving is part of giving. There’s this universally engrained belief that giving is better than receiving, when really they are just polar opposites of the same spectrum.

 Giving ---------------------------- Receiving

Try to exclude one of them and you throw the entire spectrum off balance. If your life is dominated by your giving yourself/your time/energy away and you feel that you don’t receive enough love, money, appreciation, care, thank you’s, etc in return, you are simply focused too much on one end of the giving-receiving spectrum.

Realize that they are non-exclusive, so in other words if you are giving a lot there is inevitably coming a lot back. Stop complaining or taking pity on yourself for working so hard to please others and start focusing on what is flowing back to you instead. As you’ll start shifting your focus you will recognize the receiving end of the equation.

If your immediate thought was „but I don’t have time to sit down and do that“ I have great news. You don’t have to do that. Instead, just start becoming aware of the things you are receiving/have received while going about your daily routine. After all, women know how to multi-task!
